What times do I work as a volunteer?
Friday: 4:00pm-10pm
Saturday: 7:00am–10pm
The event usually ends by 10pm. Once you are released from your volunteer responsibilities, you are free to leave. Some volunteers decide to stay and help with clean up, but that choice is yours.
Where do I report to once I arrive
Saturday: Arrive promptly at 7:00 AM at the volunteer check-in table. From there, go to the volunteer training room to receive your breakfast. After announcements are made, you will proceed to the post you were assigned on Friday.
Will I be trained for my job? When and where will training be?
Yes. Training begins at 4:00pm on Friday. After you check-in, you will be directed to the volunteer training room.
Is it ok if I’m a little late for check-in? Can I show up after check-in or after the event has started?
No. Please be there on time for volunteer check-in. In order for you to be fully informed on how to do your job, you need to be there for training. Because the doors open at 6pm, we have a limited amount oftime to get you ready. Please take the appropriate steps to get time off from your job so that you can be on time for check-in.
Why is my job placement not guaranteed?
Which job you have during the event is not finalized until after training. We try to place volunteers in the areas where they are most needed. If we need you to serve in another area, we will ask you to help there. Please be flexible if we need you to serve in another area.
Can I request to work in a specific section of the arena or work with a group of friends?
You can, but it is not guaranteed for the reasons mentioned in the previous question. Please be flexible if we need to split up your group or if we need you to work in another section of the arena.
*If you have physical conditions that prevent you from working in certain areas, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.
Do I need to bring a liability release form?
No. Before you applied online to volunteer, you had to read and agree to the volunteer agreement. Reading this serves as a substitute to filling out the liability release form that we used in the past. Only volunteers under 18 need to turn in an underage liability release form signed by their parent or legal guardian at check-in.
What happens if I am unable to volunteer and need to cancel?
We understand that unexpected situations come up that may prevent you from coming. If you must cancel, please let us know as soon as possible and preferably at least two weeks before the event.
Will I get to see the event?
Because you work during the event, you will only see parts of it. If you are interested in watching a specific session or concert, please let your team captain know. We do want you to see the event and will try to make it work out for you.
Do we get breaks during the event?
Yes. Volunteers receive a lunch and dinner break on Saturday and shorter breaks during the event. When your break occurs depends on your job. The person you report to will let you know when it is time for your breaks.
Can I volunteer for only one day?
As much as possible, we need you for both Friday and Saturday. If you can only volunteer for one day, please let us know on your application.
Friday-only volunteers will not receive free admission into the event on Saturday or the merchandise discount.
Saturday-only volunteers will receive the merchandise discount. You will get this on Saturday.
Can I help you set up for the event on Thursday or Friday morning?
No. We have a crew who sets up all the equipment for the event. We do not need you at the arena at any point before 4:30 pm on Friday.
I have experience with audio/video/stage lighting. Can I help out in those areas at the event?
No. We have staff that runs all that equipment during the event.
How can I get involved with being on stage in the drama or having my band at Acquire the Fire?
Because we have our own drama team, we do not need help with that. Involvement with our drama team is not open to applicants. If you are interested in having your band perform at an event, please email artist.relations@teenmania.com for more information.
Do you provide meals for volunteers at the event?
We only provide a light breakfast and dinner on Saturday. All other meals are on your own. We recommend the following options:
1: Bring a sack lunch or an ice cooler with drinks and food and keep it in your car. Food is not allowed in the venue. However during your meal breaks, you can go to your car and eat there.
2: Bring money with you. Depending on the arena, concessions may be open throughout the event. Just remember that hundreds of other students will be using them at the same time.
3: Visit a fast food restaurant near the venue.
Do you provide free parking?
No. You must cover any parking fees that venues charge. However, we do try to work out discounts with the venue.
If we are able to negotiate free parking with the venue for your event, we will notify you of this the week of your event. Unless you hear otherwise from us, expect to cover parking fees on your own.
What should I wear to the event?
Wear professional-looking jeans, a black T-shirt, and sturdy tennis shoes. You will receive an ATF volunteer vest to wear during the event (when you are finished on Saturday you will be able to choose an ATF T-shirt of your choice). You need to wear the vest the whole time you serve as a volunteer.
What should I bring? Not bring?
Bring: Money to cover expenses such as parking and meals.
Don’t Bring: Valuable personal items. We are not responsible for them if they get lost or stolen. There will be no storage area for your personal items.
Can I bring a friend with me to volunteer?
Yes! Walk-up volunteers are welcome. They must be 17 years old or older. Bring them with you to volunteer check-in on Friday at 4:00pm.
Can I bring my small child/children to the event?
No. As a volunteer, you will be too busy working and will not be able to monitor your child. We do not provide child care at the event.
How often will you be in contact with me?
We will contact you at least twice before the event:
1. Within two weeks of submitting your application, we will notify you to tell you whether you have been accepted to be a volunteer
2. On the week of the event, we will check to see that you still plan to volunteer and to give you any last minute details about your event.
Can I get community service hours for volunteering at an ATF? How do I get proof of this?
Yes. You can receive 21 hours of community service for volunteering. If you need a letter confirming these community service hours, please contact the volunteer team and request this. Simply let us know how many events you volunteered for in the past and we will send you a letter.
Can I sign up more than one person on my application?
No. Each volunteer must read and agree to the volunteer agreement on their own before they submit their application.
